Gatso safety camera system
There are more than 6 thousand Gatso Speed cameras in use by the police and local authorities within the UK. They make up the majority of fixed speed camera devices and work by using radar technology. The gatso camera sends the signal to the car and back to the system measuring the drivers speed and snapping a picture if the vehicle is exceeding the limit. The gatso system of radar is used also in hand held systems, mobile units and can also be used in a moving vehicle.
The Gatso costs between 20-40k to install and requires 240 Volts of power which is harder to connect in rural areas. Because the camera are rear facing they don’t blind on coming traffic but it also mean there harder to spot. A good speed camera detector will alert you to the positions of all these cameras.
The Gatso camera can only take 400 pictures and which in some areas may only last a few hours and can identify if your driving a car, van or HGV enforcing the correct speed limit for all vehicles.
In the UK your likely to receive 3 points on your licence and a £60.00 fine if your caught by a Gatso system. However a bill is working its way through parliament that could increase these amounts.
Whilst we don’t want to speed most of us on todays roads are trying our best to navigate from a to b in the safest way possible and a small lapse in concentration can result in a ticket and fine. Which is why we need some sort of assistance be it satellite navigation or a GPS speed camera detection system.
Speed camera detectors alert drivers to dangers in the road ahead keeping you and your passengers safe. Whilst it is not a speed cameras intention to catch speeders they are designed to reduce accidents and detection devices help alert drivers to their presence contributing to road safety.
