Traffic Light Camera system
Traffic light cameras use loops in the road which are cut into the surface. They sometimes use radar technology. When using a loop system the system is active once the light turns to red and any vehicle that passes over the road sensor is photographed. The radar system works in a similar way to the GATSO system.
These systems are being changed at the moment to calculate speed so be careful as you could well get caught with a dual offence.
In the UK your likely to receive 3 points on your licence and a £60.00 fine if your caught by a Truvelo system. However a bill is working its way through parliament that could increase these amounts.
Whilst we don’t want to speed or skip a red light its sometimes an innocent mistake when navigating from a to b in the safest way possible and a small lapse in concentration can result in a ticket and fine. Which is why we need some sort of assistance be it satellite navigation or a GPS speed camera detection system.
Speed camera detectors alert drivers to dangers in the road ahead and will alert you to the presence of traffic light cameras keeping you and your passengers safe. Whilst it is not a speed cameras intention to catch speeders they are designed to reduce accidents and detection devices help alert drivers to their presence contributing to road safety.
