The Mio DigiWalker C220 is a well featured Satellite Navigation (Sat Nav) unit aimed at the budget end of the market. The Mio C220 operates via a 400MHz CPU with 32MB RAM and a SiRF Star III chipset, features a 3.5-inch touch screen, along with full UK maps and major roads in Europe and speed camera alerts that are free to update for 1 year after registration.
Add to that points of interest (searchable by name category or location), and if that's not enough, you can also use the C220 as an MP3 player.
The C220 is a lightweight 110g so if you decide to use this in pedestrian mode then it will slip into your pocket nicely. Its 4.5-hour battery life is just about enough for a day's car-free tourism, too.
Even though this is a budget Sat Nav the screen is large, bright, and crisp, making you think this is a much more expensive unit. The touch sensitivity and voice commands work great too.
The Mio is also able to provide traffic updates with an optional antenna and receiver, which we think is a must buy if you want to avoid serious traffic congestion.
During our product testing we found the MIO C220 to be excellently designed, it is slim and light, especially compared to the TomTom One which is over twice the weight. We loved the built in Speed Camera Warnings, which many other products do not offer. Switching the device on and it locking on to the satellites took around 2 minutes which is about standard for most Sat Nav products. We experience no loss of signal the whole time of using the MIO C220 so once you set your route up you should have no problems what so ever.
Unfortunately the MIO C220 isn’t completely flawless; the software is not as good as other products and can take a little while to get used to.
This may not be the most advanced units on the market but at £139.99 this is a fantastic buy. At this price it would be criminal to give this unit anything less than 5/5.
