TRUVELO cameraTruvelo camera systems have been designed to photograph vehicles heading towards them and as such can really creep up on you often trapping drivers. They don’t use a flash like the Gatso system so instead they use an infra red flash which also takes a picture of the driver. They use a system of three while lines painted before the camera in the road and are triggered by strips in the road which are used to assess the vehicles speed. DS2 Speed CamerasThe DS2 speed speed camera is often referred to as SpeedMaster, Autovision or Autovision 2 which are similar systems. This type of speed camera are not permanent fixtures, they cover two lanes of traffic in both directions. They can be left attended or unattended while enforcing the speed limit.

PEEK traffic cameras PEEK traffic cameras rely on radar technology and use loops in the road they first came on the scene in 1990 and are rear facing very similar to the GATSO camera. The PEEK camera system is used in built up areas but is not very common at the moment.

Speed Curb cameras Speedcurb roadside speed camera are mostly used to monitor light offences as well as speeding. They are a rear facing system and are used in fixed permanent speed camera locations. The speedcurb system used sensors in the road to calculate the speed of the vehicle passing through the zone. The system has a built in flash module for night use.

Traffic Light cameras Traffic light cameras use loops in the road which are cut into the surface. They sometimes use radar technology. When using a loop system the system is active once the light turns to red and any vehicle that passes over the road sensor is photographed. The radar system works in a similar way to the GATSO system.

Watchman cameras Watchman speed cameras are rear facing similar to the Gatso speed camera they use radar to detect your speed and a second camera for number plate recognition. The watchman system is currently on trial before its national installation programme.
