Talex Speed Camera Detection System
The Talex Speed Camera Detection System was launched in 2005 and the newer Talex Lite has been a huge hit. It is one of the cheapest units on the market but yet manages to do exactly what it says on the tin, detect speed cameras. The Key features of the Talex are:
Key Features
- Warnings of Fixed, Possible mobile and Red Light Camera’s
- Speed Sensitive
- Direction Sensitive
- Road Specific Activation
- Accurate Speed Reading
- Time When Stationary
- User Position Logging
- Accident Black Spot Positions
The unit comes with the latest database pre-loaded and if want to be able to update the database it will cost you £34.99 for 1 year.
During our testing we found the Talex easy to install, it is quite small so does not look silly on your dashboard. The unit switches on automatically when there is power to the lighter socket, and does not actually have a power button; we do not personally think this is an advantage or disadvantage.
When a warning is triggered, a chime is heard followed by an announcement such as ‘Warning speed camera 500 yards ahead – limit 30 miles per hour’, the speed limit at the speed camera site will flash for eight seconds, before going back to displaying the vehicle’s speed. This will typically happen at 500 yards from the camera position, (in some cases a 500 yard warning is not ideal because of the road layout). A second chime is heard at 200 yards from the camera site, and if the vehicle is still over the speed limit, a continuous warning is heard ‘Warning – reduce speed’ until the vehicle speed drops to the speed limit, or the camera site is passed.
During our test the unit found all the camera locations and it detected all the mobile sites we are aware of in our area.
Due to the fact this unit is so cheap and does exactly what you want it to do we will give it 5/5
